About Pixie Bob Cat Breeds
Choosing between cat breeds can be like trying to decide which snowflake is prettier. Each new kitten is cuter than the last. There are so many varieties to choose from, each with its own distinct style and personality. Do you want a cat breed that is elegant, like an Abyssinian or Siamese?
On the other hand, do you want a cat like a Persian that gives an air of sophistication? Maybe you want something that resembles a cat’s wild cousins? Bengal Cats have beautiful seen coats reminiscent of leopards and ocelots, and the Pixie Bob looks like the Bobcats in North America.
Pixie Bobs can have a wild look to them, but you can not ask for a more charming, loving companion. This breed has a reputation as the Golden Retriever of the cat world. These cats, first raised in the U.S. States of the Pacific Northwest, were thought to be the product of a Bobcat and a stray cat.
DNA results have yet to demonstrate any connection in blood line, however. The only “fierceness” this cat has is in his loyalty to his owner and family. Breeders have found that after reaching an age of one or two, a Pixie Bob does not adapt well to new owners.
The Pixie Bob is a medium to large cat which some have described as “big boned”. They have seen the marks and black tufts on their ears. Their tails are short or full length. If you’re planning to show your Pixie Bob, make sure the breeder has not had its tail cut.
A docked tail is not acceptable in the ring. Pixie Bobs also have huge paws that are “straight fingers” or “point of polyethylene”. A Pixie Bob Finger has the legs straight with the normal number of fingers on it (five in the front and four in back).
A cop-end Pixie Bob will have more than the usual number of toes, maybe six at the front of the legs instead of five. Unlike most cats, Pixie Bobs take three years to reach maturity in contrast to the usual one year. Males can reach 22 kilos and females up to about 16 pounds.
If you are looking for a Pixie Bob, you can expect to sign a contract for the protection of cats, and you. A contract describes what the farm will be responsible for (such as a guarantee 72 hours on the health of the records of the kitten and what the farm veterinarian will provide), refunds, replacements, and expenses.
The contract also informs of the responsibilities of the buyer once the cat leaves the possession of the farm. Some other things you can expect to find in the operating agreement are the fees (if you request that a kitten is held specifically for you), you promise to give the kitten a good home and reasonable care, and publicity rights (The hatchery might want to use photos of your kitty for future promotions).
Now that you’ve decided you want to have a Pixie Bob of your own, where do you find one? It is highly unlikely that you will be able to find one in a shelter for cats, although there are Pixie Bob rescues out there.
While most Pixie Bob farms are in the state of Washington in the United States, you can find throughout the U.S. and the United Kingdom as well. The International Cat Association has a list of Pixie Bob farms and almost any other breed of cat that is.
